BMW R 120 G/S ADV [2004-2012] - Conversion Kit

Complete R 120 G/S conversion kit styled after classic GS models

This comprehensive conversion kit transfers the lines of the 1980s GS to the BMW R1200 GS while retaining the comfort and handling of the original motorcycle. The replacement parts weigh a total of 6,4 kg less than the corresponding original components; four kilograms are saved in the area in front of the handlebar. The conversion does not alter the retained original parts and can be returned to the original configuration.

Design and Conversion Concept

The manufacturer specifies an installation time of approximately four hours. Some components intentionally retained in their original form are transferred from the motorcycle.

Tank Covers and Tank Strap

The tank covers are made from special resin with carbon-fiber reinforcements and feature graphics and a transparent protective layer. They are supplied with mounting holes, screws, rubber buffers, a rear mounting bracket, and machined bushings for the front mounting points. The right cover can be removed quickly for air-filter maintenance; the rear bracket features a slot for a tank bag.

The three upper M5 clips used to join the covers are transferred from the motorcycle and used with the supplied M5 x 12 mm button-head screws. The original pointed M5 screws must not be used, as they may damage the covers.

The handcrafted tank strap is made from Italian full-grain leather and stitched with nylon thread. It covers the joint between the tank covers and allows optional accessories to be attached. The required mounting hardware is included.

Seat and Side Components

Fenders, Rear, and Luggage Rack

The lightweight rear fender mounts to the original mounting points. It includes a taillight with bulb and wiring that fits the original connector, requiring no modification to the electrical system. Eyelets for the turn-signal cables and the required screws are also included.

The front fender adopts the design language of the 1980s GS. The Alpine White version can be mounted high on the headlight frame or low in the original position. The matte black version is intended exclusively for low installation in the original position.

The luggage rack is made from steel with highly durable powder coating. It is installed with aluminum spacers and the original screws and features practical passenger grab handles.

Handlebar, Headlight, and Front Fairing

The front fairing is inspired by the legendary R80 GS PD. It is made from ABS, features an Alpine White finish with a transparent protective layer, and is supplied with mounting clips. The specified diameter is 185 mm; the fairing provides aerodynamic protection.

Tank Brackets and Protective Components

The sturdy powder-coated steel tank brackets allow removal of the original headlight-frame, radiator-mount, and tank-mount assembly. They mount at the same points as the removed subframe and accommodate the original rubber buffers from the R1200 GS.

The crash bars and engine guard are also made from powder-coated steel. The design allows installation of the side-mounted oil cooler and is supplied with spacer bushings and screws. Most maintenance work can be performed without removing the bars; an additional side brace provides protection in off-road falls.

Oil Cooler and Lines

The original R1200-GS logos are not included in the kit. Original ADV aluminum cases with metal frames can be used. Original Vario plastic cases require a suitable case frame available separately.

Compatibility

The kit is designed for BMW R1200 GS models from model years 2004 to 2012; the appropriate version for 2004–2007 or 2008–2012 must be selected. On the Adventure model, the kit can only be installed if the original plastic tank is replaced with the original tank from the R1200-GS model. The crash bars and engine guard can also be installed on original R1200-GS versions from model years 2004 to 2012.
